Do you think Alexander honestly felt like he was avenging Persian wrongs? Or was that just propaganda to mask his goal of conquest?
In the beginning, Alexander did believe that he was avenging Persian wrongs, but as time went on he became set on conquering the world. He used the power he had to take over the known world and the fact that he was avenging Persian wrongs to mask his true goal. During his travels to Persia he was told he was the son of Anon and won a contest, the prize was being able to rule the world. This made him very confident in himself and he was able to conquer the world. He wanted to do the things his father did not get the chance to do.
